Firefly

Sunday, April 01, 2007 - 03:53 PM

As one sci-fi lover to another, allow me to lean in close to relay this in serious tones:

Firefly is some of the best sci-fi to ever originate from TV. If you haven't yet seen it, do yourself a favor and get the DVDs.

My wife and I missed the show when it originally aired (as did most people, in all honesty). But when we popped the DVDs in, we were totally enthralled. And a little heartbroken when we got to the last one. It was one of those brilliant shows that was killed long before its time -- and for all the wrong reasons.

So if you haven't seem 'em, rent 'em! Well worth the watch.

Also: my my buddy Kris Straub has a pretty brilliant take on the Future/Cowboy/Mandarin language structure of the show. After you've watched the DVD, check out his character Zillionfor a laugh.

Also! Tomorrow! The Star Wars storyline has to go on hold for the big six-day contest between myself and the Unshelved guys! Who can make the most funny out of coffee cup lids? Man, I hope it's me! If not, don't hate me!

1 NARRATOR: Sheldon takes a meeting with Joss Whedon
Joss Whedon: Are you kidding? I'd love to remake Star Wars!
SHELDON: Great! I can't think of anyone I'd rather see do it. "Firefly" was AMAZING.
OUTSIDE (Generic: forest, trees, etc.)
  • Table
  • teacups
2 Joss Whedon: The first thing we'd need to do is kill off Han. Everyone loves Han, so that'd be a real tear-jerker.
SHELDON: No... . No, Joss. We're not killing off anybody.
OUTSIDE (Generic: forest, trees, etc.)
3 Joss Whedon: C'mon! It'll be awesome! Everybody loves it when beloved characters get killed.
SHELDON: No! No one likes that! It drives people nuts!
OUTSIDE (Generic: forest, trees, etc.)
4 Joss Whedon: Oh! So I suppose it's ok to kill off an innovative show, but not ok to kill off innovative characters? Is that it???
SHELDON: What? Are you even listening to yourself? Just because "Firefly" got cancelled, it doesn't give you license to kill off a bunch of characters.
OUTSIDE (Generic: forest, trees, etc.)
  • Table
  • teacups
5 Joss Whedon: Ok. Yeah. You're probably right.
OUTSIDE (Generic: forest, trees, etc.)
6 Joss Whedon: ...What if it was just Luke?
SHELDON (Thinking): Peter Jackson.
OUTSIDE (Generic: forest, trees, etc.)
  • Table
  • teacups
