Beta-Testin' the new Sheldon Forum!

Are you going to be able to import the old forum into this one, or are we basically starting over, or has this already been done and I'm showing my laziness by not searching around for them myself?

And, which blue bit? There are several blue bits here and there. I'm not color blind, but surely there a few out there that see gray bits instead of blue bits. Sorry, I'm not trying to be a pain, I'm just having trouble with jargon and techno-babble tonight.

p.s. the text in the re section is very tiny, at least in my browser, I can make it bigger, but sometimes formatting can get really ugly when you have to resize text.

I'm still learnin' the new forum as well, so let's consider this my first response post.

OK, questions!

A: As of now, nothing has been ported in. It's technically possible to do it, but it's a fair amount of work, as the two systems were/are very different. It may just be easier to leave the old one up, if BLC is willing.

A: It's the section at the end of each blog. It also includes a little "read/post comments" text — hopefully that'll be enough for folks. We'll know in a day or so!

A: We have it set right now in CSS to 12 pt, I believe. I'll double-check that.

A: For mistaken posts, I gather? I hadn't noticed that there wasn't one. I'll ask if the system has one that can be turned out. I hope so! I make the occassional typo, m'self!

Gah white text on a grey background. The enemy of any human computer interaction nut. Please come up with a better color scheme, perhaps the same as the main site? P.S. Love the comic.

I didn't see a link or button anywhere that would allow a forum member to start a new thread. I can reply to an existing thread, but not start a new one. Unless I'm just not seeing the obvious today, which wouldn't be anything new. :)

I also agree that the forum text is a little small.

Yee-haw! I love the new comments section. Scootin' my behind all the way over to the forum was waaay too much effort. Handy dandy blue section? Ten out of ten.

Hum, I also can't see a "new discussion" link anywhere. Also, I can't directly access my user profile. The text keeps talking about links I should be able to see on the left side, but there's nothing. I eventually managed to access it, but it was difficult to find.

Ahhh... there it is. Seeing it now :).

Awesome forum! Something new to read each day.

Once we get the bigger-picture problems fixed in the beta testing, I'll definitely answer concerns and change the color scheme/fonts. To get the new forum started, we just lifted an existing CSS Style Sheet from Goats comics strip [goats.com]... but there's no reason why I can't change it to a black-text-on-white-or-light-background. And bump the font up. So know that that's noted, and we'll circle back 'round on it.

As for starting discussions, you *should* be able to do that over in the broader forum [sheldoncomics.com] (rather than here in the bloggity blog section). But if that's not working, it's something we'll have to look into!

Nah, isn't working. If I click the "start a new discussion" link in the box on the right side, it gives me this message:

"Start a new discussion in Sheldon Talk:
This forum is for discussions about Sheldon Forum: Talk about today's strip, today's blog, or any Sheldon-related awesomeness!.
Average users can't start discussions in this forum. You need to be much more special."

OK, one hiccup worked out! You should (...should! Fingers crossed!) be able to start discussions now. Huzzah! Progress!

Yep yep, it's working now!

Now I just need one other thing on the important list.

I would like the option to be notified by email when someone replies to a topic that I have replied to or commented in. You know like it worked over in the other place... I can forgive everything else if I have that :)

That one I don't think the new system can do, I'm sorry to say!

On a bright note: That gives you more excuses to come back and visit the Sheldon site throughout the day. :)

Is it possible to up the character threshold for signatures. 255 characters isn't very many.
