Where are YOU in the world?

Monday, March 10, 2008 - 10:38 PM

After the recent posts ranking global cities, I got a few e-mails from people surprised to see Sheldonistas were, in fact, from all over the world. So I thought this might be interesting: Describe where you're reading this from. No need to get too specific, just the fun generics will do.

I'll get us started...

I'm reading (...writing?) this in Los Angeles, California, sitting in my cartooning studio. Outside we had a really nice high-sixties (high-teens, in Celsius) day. Felt like Spring has sprung.

Where are you right now?

Sitting on my couch in my cabin in lovely North Pole, Alaska. It's been a very warm March, the snow is starting to melt, and so are the ice carvings! [icealaska.com]

Finland, Helsinki, 60.15N, Early morning in my kitchen, sipping a lot of coffee to prepare myself for yet another day at office. With more coffee. And yeah, there was 3 inches of snow at weekend - all melted by now. 36F / 2C

Up in the middle of the night, nursing a sore back from shifting a couple of tons of slushy snow the snowblower would not move in Ohio - after the blizzard. Cold here tonight, snow melted some here today as it got up to 45F, but still have 15 inches on the ground of the original 24 plus three foot drifts in the front yard. The older I get, the less I like snow, but the more I appreciate Gramps in Sheldon.

Concord, California, which isn't terribly exotic, until I mention my proximity to San Francisco. The weather has been bright and sunny, of late, if a bit blustery...

Yeah, you had to ask while I was in the bathroom o.O

It's gone 8.32pm (in the future!) in Kapiti, New Zealand. Just had dinner after suffering 2.5 hours in a fecken traffic jam, but at least it's along the coast so it was pretty to look at. Leaving Summer and grudgingly saying hello to Autumn. Oh well at least we don't get snow here, so it won't get too cold :D

Sitting at my desk in Vass, North Carolina at 4 a.m., eating toast because I'm once again sleepless and hungry enough to gnaw off my own arm. It's been in the 70s here the past week or so, and at 19 weeks with twins, I'm not looking forward to summer's heat and humidity even a little bit. I am looking forward to (hopefully!) finding out next week what kind we've got coming.

I am in exotic San Jose, CA in the heart of Silicon Valley in all it's silicon-y glory...or maybe that's L.A. ...but I digress. I am lounging on the absolute height of technological bedding for the "I refuse to admit I'm an adult" set - the ever glorious futon. All of this while browsing on my vintage bottom-of-the-line Dell laptop (circa 2006). In this valley of the hearts delight, it's a lovely 54 degrees out - a perfect temperature to round out a luxurious night in fabulous San Jose, California.

(Even Paris Hilton would be embarrassed by such extravagance!)

Sat in my dining room in Rochdale (UK). Having a ten minute RSS chillout before taking the offspring to school and trying to find out if storm Kirsten is likely to be any more than the gentle breeze Johanna turned out to be!

Adelaide, Australia. In the middle of one of the longest heat waves in Adelaide history (with records possibly dating back to last Tuesday) with everyday being over 36 degrees Celcius (97 degrees Fahrenheit for those playing in countries that use that weird temperature counting system) so the words in the comic occasionally distort with heat waves in my study, which happily doubles as an oven in Summer and a freezer in Winter.

Seville, Spain. It's 10:39 in the morning and I'm already lazying around... That could happen if your boss is an ignorant, and deserves to be deceived :P. It's a little bit cold here, cause spring is being a little shy around here. Shows a leg under the door, then runs away. Greetings fron Andalusia!

Right here in Pyongtaek, South Korea. We've seen the first 60 degree day since the start of start of the year, although the "Yellow Dust" is pretty bad today. It was below freezing for high temps just 2 weeks ago. Soon the monsoons will be here and things will get hot and humid.

Center for Bioinformatics Hamburg, Germany. Taking a little break from my diploma thesis. The weather is typical for Hamburg: drizzle, stormy and cold...

So, to say it with a german song: "Wann wirds mal wieder richtig Sommer?"
