Trying Somethin' New (Oso's Adventure)

Because he's not particularly good with The King's English, Oso's adventure tale will be a completely non-verbal story. Which, unless I'm mistaken, I've never tried before. I hope you won't mind me experimenting with something different...it's fun to stretch the ol' wings from time to time.
Anyway, each strip in this 8-day arc will be a double-sized strip...with a little more background detail than normal, to help pick up the communication when words are absent.
Lookin' at them all spread out on my drawing desk, I think they came out pretty neat — I hope you enjoy 'em!
Also, just a head's up: I'll be away from the inna'net for the next 5-8 days, so please forgive me if I don't get back to your e-mails for a while. As soon as I can, I'll be responding to each and every one...as I always do!

You mean it's not going to be a Family Circus style panorama with a dotted line for Oso's path?

I really like how Dave makes up for the lack of speech with all those awesome facial expressions of Oso :D.

OoooOoooOOoooooOOoooohhh!! Now THAT's a dog! :D And I like how you contrasted the ore naturalistic style of the scaaaary wolf with the more cartoony one of Oso.

I love this. The art is very evocative and the story is one I think everyone is going to enjoy. I'm very much looking forward to the continuation.
Thanks. :-)

Shades of the brilliant manga "Gon". I see I'll be enjoying the next few comics.

I love it! You have just as much story-telling awesomeness in your visual depictions as your verbal stories. The adventures of Flaco have often been non-verbal, though probably not as involved as Oso's is going to be.
Today's strip happens to remind me a bit of The Abominable Charles Christopher comic: http://horhaus.com/abominable/

Good idea, Dave.
Once, my Shar-Pei got off the leash at a woodland park and it took me three hours to find her (Shar-Pei, being very wrinkly, are hard to fit to even a figure-eight harness). A rabbit was the foil instead of a squirrel. When I found her, or rather, when she finally came to my call, she was dirty, smelly and I could swear she was smiling and immensely self-satisfied. So, after she got her bath at home, my grandson and I made up a story of what she had been up to during her AWOL.
I can't wait to see how your story comes out.

Smallish for a wolf. Perhaps a coyote? They prey upon dogs when they can. Even one of Ozzy's small dogs was taken by a coyote and he was so heartbroken he was almost clear-spoken.

Well now we see why nature gave them a spine of lime jello. It's to make them be nimble and flexible enough to escape predators. Although, I must say for a creature with the brains of a sofa cushion he has excellent survival skills.

And, for tomorrow, should we also cue up "Wipe Out" by the Surfaris?

You are doing such an awesome and amazing job with Oso's Adventure!!! I have both a black pug and a dark brindle bug(boston/pug mix) and Oso is getting to do what they want to do in real life!! You have been able to make the actions of Oso(face expessions)look so lifelike. Are you owned by a pug or have you just studied them? Trinity and Annie send lot of licks to you!!!

Has anyone noticed that Oso is the quietest he has been - EVER?
I'll bet Grampa, Sheldon, Arthur, and Flaco wish this were a more common occurance around the house.
