Monday's Guest Artist: Kris Straub of "Starslip Crisis"

We're starting off the Guest Artist Week in fine form, with my good friend Kris Straub takin' the reins. Kris is, honestly speaking, one of the most talented and prolific artists I've ever met. And his take on "Sheldon," today, made me laugh out loud. It's a strip I wish *I* would've written... and that's saying something.
Please do yourself favor and check out Kris' fantastic daily sci-fi comic, Starslip Crisis, or his new one-shot-gag strip, chainsawsuit.
And hey, let's make the Guest Artists know they're appreciated! If you liked today's strip, make sure you thank Kris by clicking this link to send him a li'l note!

Wow! Kris never ceases to amaze. I've seen some of his older work where he would mimic the drawing style of other webcartoonists, but when I first visited Sheldon this morning my first thought was "I thought it was a guest week, guess not" It wasn't until I looked closer and read the strip that I noticed.
Sheldon with a Bill Gates twist? scary.

Ditto that. Kris uses such a distinctive style in Starslip Crisis (and in Checkerboard Nightmare) that I lose track of how versatile he is - that's the closest approximation of the original artist's style that I've ever seen in a guest cartoon (and I've seen some guest cartooning in my day).

I must say that this is a very surprising side to the comic strip. One, Sheldon is actually in his office working. Two, He is being very aggressive and assertive here. I don't think we've ever seen sheldon's aggressive side before. This is very odd, On the one hand you would have to be aggressive like this to be CEO of the country. But on the other hand, this seems to conflict with Sheldon's basic personality.
On a related note, How would Sheldon feel if he found out that people were pirating his software or stealing from him.

There's a distinct Straub flavour to the first five panels once one looks closer (particularly the first and the lady in the fifth), but as everyone has said it's also incredibly true to the Kellett style. The final panel looks like it could have been copied directly from one of the originals - truely spooky. Darren Bleuel [nukees.com] has a similar talent for mimicry if I recall correctly.
I have to say that the whole joke, while funny, makes me think of Straub's recent poking fun [chainsawsuit.com] at Perry Bible Fellowship - I know I've seen that joke before, but I think it was Straub too in that case. A newspost or something, perhaps.

This is hilarious. Straub did a nice spin to the character.
Very nicely done Kris.

It may seem like a departure for Sheldon, but he's shown that tough-cookie side before. Remember when he tried (unsuccessfully) to put Star Wars in better hands?
If Dave takes this and runs with it, it could take the strip into all-new territory ... and then remind us that he's still only ten years old, as Kris did so brilliantly.
Best guest strip ever.
