Knowing the tricks of advertising...and still falling for it.

I get it. Cuteness sells.
Cuteness triggers all sorts of basic, human parenting instincts and emotional responses that no logical brain can fully ignore...resulting in a higher possibility of an emotionally based purchase the next time you're in the store.
I get it. I understand it. And I see it comin' a mile away.
But dang it! Dang this commercial! I can not resist its charms! I'm singing this dang thing constantly. A capella style, Gregorian-monk style, George Clinton Parliament style. It's ridiculous. This commercial has wedded itself to my deepest synapses.
The ad team that came up with this thing should all be getting Mazda Miatas for Christmas bonuses.

This one doesn't have the "cuteness factor" the singing puppy does, but it sure does stick in my craw:

I know...it's stupid, but it gets me hummin'!

LOL! My wife could tell you that I start singing along with that commercial almost every time it comes on. It is a great one!

The commercials that get me are the pedigree adoption drive commercials. Makes me want to go get another dog

Interestingly enough, this was the first commercial I thought of when I read Dave's comments today.

It must be the face-waggling of the neapolitan mastiff that kicks up that cuteness.

This one is cute and all, but I still think the one that aired a few years back when he (the puppy) was writing a letter home from camp.

Yes!
Thank you very much Bacardii.
I was looking for that one as well. I remember I would have to stop everything I was doing and watch that commercial every time it came on TV it was so cute.
The Cadbury's Gorilla one is funny and interesting but doesn't quite hit the cute button with me.
That can't be a real Gorilla can it?

Bonus points for the Newsradio reference.
I can't watch it now because I'm at work, but I'm looking forward to seeing this craw-sticking commercial (commercials don't bother me much anymore since I stopped watching TV that doesn't come in DVD form).

I absolutely LOVE this commercial since it always makes me think of my Mom. I don't know about other places, but here in Houston it ran like clockwork during the morning news (about 7:10)in '06 and the both of us would just burst out in song every morning it ran. Sadly, she passed away Christmas of '06 and the commercial doesn't run at that time anymore (now it tends to run during the late afternoon news), but I always think of her when I see that little pup singing, and yes, I still sing along to it. :)

The first couple of times they ran this commercial I thought it was cute. The following 1,325 times since, yeeeaaah. Not so much now.

Sadly, I knew exactly what commercial you were referring to before I ever clicked the link.

that was the final version of the gorilla ad, lots of attempts ended up on the cutting room floor, like this one [youtube.com]
