I'm thinking, Sheldon: The Animated Series! And then, in 3 years, a live action movie with CGI Arthur and Flacco.

Still, would the comic strip survive the trip? Could a great idea be wrecked beyond repair? Could the voices be entirely different than the ones imagined?

Still, the thought of CGI Arthur and Flacco make me smile. How would they make Sheldon's huge glasses work, though?

I could definitely see an animated Sheldon, but I don't think it would translate to live action as well. The body language and facial expressions of the human characters are so perfectly drawn that I don't think any actors could even approach them. I think it'll just have to be an animated movie, too. :)

I think I'm one of the few comic strip cartoonists alive that *doesn't* want to see his/her creation translated to moving media. I explained this to a journalist the other day: Comics are to animation what photography is to film-making. The technologies and methods of communication are similar, but one is the result of the unique, singular voice of an artist, and the other is the result of teams of people. Usually, many teams of people. More often than not, it ruins it.

I'm perfectly content with Sheldon always remaining a comic strip. :)

1. Maybe. Over the hedge did an interesting job of transferring over to the silver screen.

2. Yes, Most likely yes.

3. Yes, Most likely yes.

4. It's special effects. If animated just keep them huge. If life action, maybe actually make them huge old coke bottle glasses that his face can barely support.

5. Should all popular comic strip do at least one animated special or holiday special?

Yes, Most likely yes.

I could just see traditional animation, but would quail at the thought of live action (Garfield: the Movie) or three-dimensional CGI (Over the Hedge). I think a satisfying plot would be difficult as well: Over the Hedge had, to my mind, to really change around a lot of the way the strip works, the interactions, create new backstory, etc. in order to reach out to an audience that doesn't know the characters and read the daily strip, and that rather turned me off.
