Librarians! Come say "hi" at the ALA show in Anaheim!

Monday, June 23, 2008 - 03:31 PM

I'll be putting up more information later on in the week, but I wanted to give a reminder heads up to the librarian Sheldonistas:

I'll be at the American Library Association conference this weekend, sharing a big ol' booth with the lads from Unshelved. It's my first time going to a library conference, so I'm very curious to see how it goes.

We'll have copies of all the Sheldon books, a dozen or so of the last "How To Make Webcomics" copies, original comic strip art at $25 off, free sketches, generous allotments of high-fives, a sneak-peek at the next book, and information on how you can order books for your branch or district.

So make plans to come by...and I'll see you there!

It really sucks living on the east coast sometimes. I mean, I love it out here, but it seems like all the stuff that I love goes on out there (like the good cons, etc). Think you'll ever make it over to, say, North Carolina?

If Heroes Con in N. Carolina ever invites me out, I'll be out there lickety-split.

You need to tell us the inspiration about today's comic. Too funny. Bizarre...but sheldon can get away with it. Book clubs are a funny idea too... wonder what books sheldon would read... ...

In Response to magnus (#43470):

Well given his affinity towards sci-fi I would start the suggestions off with any number of books by Timothy Zahn (Grand Admiral Thrawn creator), I would see whether he has read any poop fiction (Walter the Farting Dog, etc) and the Where's Waldo consortium of books.

Depending on his mood I might suggest The Drunkard's Walk: How Randomness Rules Our Lives by Leonard Mlodinow as it uses mathematics to explain our random lives (or something like that) or Bad Money: Reckless Finance, Failed Politics, and the Global Crisis of American Capitalism by Kevin Phillips (I'd like to think he would read it and go "duh" and make some more money out of the deal).

And to top it off I'd lead him to the graphic novel collection. And remember to prod him before we close.

(If he lived in Canada he'd get stickers to put on a poster [td-club-td.ca].)

Thanks for pointing out Heroes Con. I'll definitely be keeping that in mind for next year. Just out of curiosity, are there any webcomic or at least comic strip specific conventions? I've looked around but didn't come across anything.

I'll be unable to attend ALA, but I wanted to wish you luck--librarians are some of the funniest people around (and not just for the obvious reasons!).

I also wanted to thank you for the hours of enjoyment you've brought me and my 9 y.o. daughter. My husband gave me your collection for my birthday--yes, he's full of pure ducky goodness (and I'm 62% more awesome)--and we've been enjoying them before bed. Word to the wise, reading funnies before bed isn't the best way to settle down, but it seems to work for us!

Have fun at ALA!

Yay! So I'm just going to have to come pester you when I stop by to say hi to Bill and Gene :-)

Any chance you're going to have any t-shirts with you? Like say a Lucky Duck in women's XL?

I look forward to meeting you!

My girlfriend's friend from Albany, NY, will be there. I'll try to get her to swing by your table to discover the greatness that Sheldon is. Keep up the good work, Dave.
