News from San Diego

Friday, July 25, 2008 - 08:14 AM

We're heading into Day 4 of San Diego Comic-Con, and so far the show has been pretty darn fantastic.

Many a Sheldonista has come up to claim their Limited Edition, 2008 Commemorative High Five. One Sheldonista asked if it came with a Stamp of Authenticity, and I said "Yes, if by Authenticity you mean Self-Evident Awesomeness."

I've also been giving out free sketches like a mad fiend. The best sketch requests (in terms of randomness) have been the A-bomb character from the long-ago 'Crotchley Labs' strip, the Texan with the 40-gallon hat, and Flaco in the Siberian hinterlands. I love it: Please make sure you get a free sketch if you're here. It's the least I can do to thank you for readin' Sheldon.

The manatee shirts went like wildfire: we only have L and XL sizes left. Which means we'll probably bow to popular demand and bring them into the store later this summer.

More news later, but in the meantime: Thanks to everyone who's come by and said "hi"!

About the digital frames: My grandmother has one and she loves it. It's not one photo - We have it currently cycling over 200 pictures from recent weddings and reunions, many of family who live very far away.

If it were just one picture I would agree with Gramp - but as it is, it's the equivalent of 3 photo albums. Also, there is no cost of printing, storing, or books. And she can look at them with her hands full.

Sorry, but I'm sold on the idea. Great comic, though.

I'm with Gramp on this one. My grandmother also has one, and she couldn't figure out how to push the one button on the front of the thing to get it to download new pictures from the Internet. It's off most of the time. Poor old gal.

Hooray for manatee shirts! I'm a little bemused that you seem surprised by the demand for this product. Clearly you underestimate your own innate awesomeness. :p

I had a wonderful time at the 'Con... Love my new Manatee shirt (which unfortunately matches me to a "T"} and the new books. I want to thank you, Dave, for signing my books and for being so nice. You and the group at the Halfpixel.com booth are awesome sauce!

btw, the intro to webcomics panel was funtastic, too! I haven't laughed so hard (and learned a thing or two) at a panel in a long time. Post-WWII will haunt you forever...

Enjoy the rest of the 'con!

Wish I could have gotten to go there...but I can't boo-hoo. I live in the Florida Panhandle...have you ever thought about coming here? We have the sugar white sand that everyone has heard of. ;0)

Well, I'd love to come say hi and get a commemorative high five, but I'm on the other side of the country. Is there such a thing as an e-five? That's all I got :(

I have a digital photo frame and it also has a USB connection. I have a 4GB thumb drive hooked to it now so you can imagine how many pics it has rotating. Got one for mom, loaded it for her and she is pleased. As the grandkids grow I'll add more pics.

Sorry, I didn't have a chance to chat or buy anything from you at the convention. I stopped by a couple of times, but you always seemed to be sketching, signing or chatting with folks and I didn't want to interfere.

Did have a nice time talking with Brad a couple of times and picked up the first TPB of EVIL INC. (I have links to both you guys on my blog.)

I highly recommend trying to catch either of you guys at anyplace you are set up.

I'm glad my only complete geek-out was with you. As I ran up and down aisles looking for you I cursed myself for not having printed your very-helpful map to your exact location... or at least the booth number... or the name of the publishing company... or anything helpful at all. But hey- I found you and got my high-five and that was a little Comic Con miracle. Thanks!
