Strip Recommendation O' The Month
Thursday, August 07, 2008 - 10:55 PM
My friends, I have been remiss.
My good buddy and "How To Make Webcomics" co-author, Kris Straub, has just launched a fantastic new strip... and I completely forgot to mention it.
Kris is, without doubt, the "hardest working" "man" in Webcomics...with not one strip, not two, but three concurrently running strips. The third being quite possibly my favorite: The already awesome F Chords.
I've read the next month's worth of strips...and I'm not kidding when I say I think it's the best work Kris has ever done. And that's sayin' something. So do yourself a favor and check it out!

He only does one webcomic, Kevin & Kell [kevinandkell.com] but Bill Holbrook does three strips, doing two dailies in the papers: Safe Havens and On the Fasttrack.
I don't see how either of them do it, that's a lot of content. Not just art, I think coming up with three storylines regularly has got to be much harder. :)

Chris over at Little Dee seems to keep pretty busy with MAD magazine and some other stuff, as does Corey Pandolf (Barkeater Lake, The Elderberries)

I don't know how he does it. Over on the Barkeater Lake comic strip site. Corey Pandolph just admitted that he can't do all three strips and maintain his sanity and sleep schedule. So he is killing off the non paying strip that he was doing just for fun. Taking him down to two strips.

Okay, I love both of you. If Kris is not a "man", pray tell, what is he? A cirbizoid? An anthropomorphic duck?
As to who is the "hardest working", not gonna touch THAT one with a pole...
(Yes, I did hear the stories about this game you guys played at SDCC...)

My mis-use of quotes in "hardest working man in Webcomics" is just me razzin' Kris. At Comic-Con, someone came up to our booth and said that to Kris with
genuine, heartfelt passion....so, as a friend, I had to give Kris grief for it all weekend.
But all razzing aside: F Chords *is* possibly my favorite new strip.

I really like F Chords too. (Actually pulled out my guitar and tried to remember how to play 'em) However, I've got a brother, man, and I know how the game is played... No drawing of Kris? Remember "Snap-A Doo"?
(Yes, I'm teasing both of you...)

My only question, after reading the first few strips of F-Chords, is this: is it just me, or does the studio owner (Samantha) look a lot like Erica? Or is that Gloria? I can't quite tell, there's all these wives running around at Halfpixel... ;)

The Hardest Working Man in Show Business? They gave James Brown a comic strip?
