Heads Up: "Awesomeness: It's Awesome"

Today's strip gives me the chance to raise a question that's been on my mind regarding comic creators' contact with the real world.

I've lived in three communities during my daughters' school-age years - and ALL of them start school in August these days. Does any place still wait until Labor Day to begin school?

I see comics all over the 'net and on the news pages talking about the first day of school as if it was still the 1960's. Has my experience been unique - or are these guys and gals just out of touch?

And, BTW - the Awesomeness art is, well, Awesome - wish I could afford to keep up with the more affluent bidders on your art, Dave. Congrats.

Re. jbctc's comments: I agree. Our local (New Mexico) public schools started up on the 12th of August, and the schools in my sister's neck of the woods (Texas) started a week after that. It is rather odd to still be reading comics about reluctance-to-go-back-to-school issues when our kids have been back in school for almost a month already.

The Michigan legislature, in its inane wisdom and to appease the tourism lobby, passed a law that public schools could not start until after Labor Day. I know of kids in Massachusetts (3 different communities), Philadelphia, and Seattle who don't start until after Labor Day. But it does seem that the further south you go, the more likely you are to start in August.

What I want to know is, why does Sheldon bother going to school? He's a gazillionaire, right?
