Ah, noble Hallenhe : "I knew I'd heard of the Lower Wharfedale nephritic moth somewhere; doublechecking my references, it turns out to be the preferred prey of the New Hebridean disemboweling gecko"

A little misleading - the Lower Wharfedale Nephritic Moth doth indeed occasionally meet its maker thanks to the New Hebridean disembowelling gecko, but the relationship is hardly 'predator - prey'
The only way the New Hebridean disembowelling gecko can kill the Lower Wharfedale Nephritic Moth is, sadly, by getting stuck in it's throat!

What's with these cosmic coincidence thingies? Yesterday, the latest page in the Foglio's Girl Genius showed up, with blood bats, spider roaches, and venemous rafter toads. Of course, they didn't put the country name in there, but in the context of Girl Genius, it's kind of unnecessary - everyone knows that they must be Heterodyne Venemous Rafter Toads.

You posted this on the very same day I discovered my new favorite (and real) animal, the Pink Fairy Armardillo. It's nearly as funny-looking as it is sounding. Witness: http://www.so-slight.com/so_slight/2008/09/top-10- animals.html

While I have heard of the New Hebridean disemboweling gecko being caught in the throat of the Lower Wharfedale nephritic moth, my understanding is that the geckos in question were hatchlings. Or do you purport that Dr. Schmidt-Hesselhoff's famous footage of the disemboweling gecko ambushing, subduing and ultimately devouring three nephritic moths in a row is somehow not up to the rigorous standards of academic discourse?

On an unrelated note, leave us not forget the Costa Rican migraine grub and the Vietnamese incendiary trout. (Though I readily acknowledge that neither of these can stand up to the Lower Wharfedale nephritic moth.)

Ah, that wonderful youtube footage of the New Hebridean dismebowelling gecko apparently twonking three nephritic moths... Dr Schmidt-Hesselhof is such a tease.

The actions and movements of the supposed Lower Wharfedale Nephritic moths in the clip are of course the giveaways - and the reason why the movements are so ludicrousy artificial and the claimed ascendancy of the New Hebridean disembowelling gecko so unlikely are in fact explained by examining the costume hire records of the Kettlewell Fancy Dress Emporium, where the ledgers clearly show that the good Doctor Schmidt-Hesselhof hired all three of the shop's nephritic moth costumes during the period in which the 'convincing' footage was shot....

On a different note, I hope for the sake of confidence in the US electoral process that there is at least a grain of truth in reports of the complete extinction of the dreaded creature the American Presidential Hanging Chad that caused such mayhem a few years ago... The UK is immune from it luckily as that particular beastie has only ever been active in democracies where leaders offer themselves to the voters....
