Today's Weird Thought of the Day (9 comments)

Today's Weird Thought of the Day

Tuesday, October 21, 2008 - 09:11 PM

Literature that you read in your youth has a weird way of insinuating itself into your adult consciousness.

Today, I was reading about economic trade between the U.S. and Canada, and in my mind, I started to think of the two as Narnia and it's northern, friendly neighbor, Archenland.

Good job, brain. Good job.

You are really young. ;-)

For me it would be "The Call of the Wild" and "Children of the Frost".

Just one hitch--our country bears no resemblance to Narnia (too much pollution for the dryads), and someone would likely shoot Aslan on sight. His having a Turkish name and all--could be a terrorist lion!

Ah, but Narnia is to the North of Archenland.

I like the poetry of the idea though. See behind the veil to another world... or do we need a wardrobe to walk through to just revel in imagination?

Good job Dave's brain, good job! >:^)

I believe it is, in fact, Ettinsmoor to the north.

You're right about it being to the south and not the north. I'm not sure that I ever saw the official "map" as a kid -- but Googling for it just now, I of course found it in 10 seconds.

My map of Narnia never leaves my side. When Aslan calls, I will be ready.

I was going to come on and comment that it was amazing that you remembered that particular detail -- I absolutely loved the books and reread them only a couple of years ago, but wouldn't have remembered that -- but then I saw the comments.

I have been out geeked!

In Response to DaveKellett (#45597):

This makes Canada Narnia. And we have the beavers to prove it!

Nyar!
