Snopes is wrong!! It's true!! I even learned it in school a long long long long time ago!! My World History teacher wouldn't lie to me! I've known since I was 11! Just like Mary Mary Quite Contrary is about Bloody Mary, Queen of England. :P I doubt Twinkle Little Star is about Russians tho.
