Snails Speed

0.03mph * 5280ft = 158.4 ft/hr
158.4 ft/hr / 60 = 2.64 ft/min
10ft / 2.64/ft = 3.79 min

So the pug is barking at a dried up slime trail. All day.

Thankfully, the snail has escaped this inhuman torture.

Yours truly,

Kevin Finder of nits.

10ft / 2.64ft/min = 3.79 min

Found my own nit.

Yeah, 0.03 mph is 80.64 furlongs/fortnight, which is fast for a snail. Snails typically vary between 1-30 f/f (snail speed being one of the "practical" examples of uses for the measurement)... and they really can't be relied upon to keep up their top speed for 10 whole feet.

As an example of how practical f/f here is... 80.64 f/f means the snail would be covering about 80 cm a minute... a foot is about 30 cm, so that's about 2 2/3 feet a minute (or 8/3 feet), so 10 feet would be covered in about 10/(8/3) minutes. Flip the denominator and multiply to give 30/8 minutes, which reduces to 3.75 min (a remarkably good estimate I could do quickly in my head once I knew the value in f/f).
