I Can Imagine This Happening With My Wife and I...

Sheldonista Ulrike P. sent in this funny little anecdote, this morning:

Imagine the following scene:

Husband and wife return home. Wife takes a large envelope from the mail box, and proceeds to unlock the door. Once inside, she looks at the envelope. Husband, entering behind her, spots the label on the envelope, sees that it says "Sheldon Comics" and snatches it from wife, exclaiming "Don't look at my mail!". He throws it face-down on the table to hide the label. Wife points out that there is a label on what appears to be the other side of the envelope that gives her name. Husband and wife discover that a) their local mail man bundles envelopes to the same address with a rubber band, b) they both made an order from the Sheldon store, and c), there will most probably be a duplicate gift this Christmas.

Years ago I lived at the Grand Canyon, AZ. My roommate and his girlfriend both came up with a great gift idea for the other: binoculars. They also wanted me to go with each of them (separately) to Flagstaff to find said binocs.

In two consecutive days, I trekked the 80 miles down to a Flagstaff outdoors shop with both of these people, and the guy behind the counter recognized me on day two, with a little, "What are you trying to pull?" expression on his face.

I frantically made "DO NOT ASK!" gestures behind my friends, and they ended up each buying the exact same make and model.

Christmas morning, they opened their gifts and called me various names for letting them do this to each other.

Something similar happened to me and my wife... a few years back those Lichtenberg Figures [capturedlightning.com] were mentioned on slashdot or something in like May. That Christmas, we both remembered them and got them for each other. ;)

My wife and I buy each other a number of small presents each Christmas in addition to our "Big Gift." A couple of years ago on Christmas Day I unwrapped a gift from her that contained a 4-cup OXO measuring cup. I must have sat there with a rather funny look on my face, becuase she asked me if I didn't like it. I told her no, we definatley needed it, I had wanted one of these and thanked her. Of course, I immediatly handed her a gift which she unwrapped. It contained . . . the same OXO measuing cup, only it was only the two cup size.

Ever since then, she keeps reminding everyone that she has proof that she loves me twice as much as I love her.

At the end of the day, the fact that we exchanged identical gifts really made my day. That easily made it the best gift I got that year.
