The gist of today's strip is something I've always been bothered by, and it was actually expressed "artistically" about 15-20 years ago on a Saturday Night Live sketch (one with Dana Carvey as George Bailey), in which the Bedford Falls folk gathered in the Bailey house formed a mob and went out to get the old codger and lynch him.
