Let's Shake Hands On It

Here's a fun fact that you may not be aware of: "Sheldon" appears in no paying newspapers. None. Zip. Zero.
Here's why I bring that up: In the last few months, I've gotten more than a few e-mails from concerned Sheldonistas asking "...how was the strip holding up?" with all the newspaper bankruptcies. And they're always a little surprised when I e-mail back and tell them what I just told you: The strip only appears here...and completely free to all online readers.
And I'm realizing that perhaps I've taken it for granted that people know that. Because these e-mails have kept rolling in over the last few months, and always with that same concerned sentiment. So it's definitely something that needs clearing up. If you'll allow, then, let me assure you of three things:
1.) The daily Sheldon strip is now and always will be 100% free to read.
2.) The (growing) Sheldon archives of 2,500 strips will always be 100% free to read.
3.) The death of newspapers won't impact that. The global recession won't impact that. If anything, the confluence of those two events means people will need a daily laugh more than ever.
So let's shake hands on it: The strip stays free to read. Deal?

The nice thing about this being free is that I can direct my students to it and not have to worry about them having to login or pay anything.
I've learned alot about the world of webcomics thanks to strips like Sheldon and I'll always do what I can to support you...

Who am I to complain about a deal like that? But it might be worth mentioning just how you make money on a free webcomic: books, original art sales, merchandise, ads, something else?

Kinda' in response to that, could you mention what TIME you post new strips? (I know it's not always "On Time" but a ballpark)
There are strips I woulda shelled out for ON-THE-SPOT, if some other quick clicking reader hadn't beat me to it....

I have to agree with Dot, there's a few strips I would have loved to have gotten my hands on, and I always check the strip first thing in the morning while getting ready for work. What time do you update the site?

The site usually updates around midnight pacific time. I live in the mountain time zone and am usually still up when it updates at 1am my time.

I'm always confused about thing such as how is it that you can do this seven days a week including a big splashy color comic on sundays, And yet other cartoonists such as Mr. Pandolph seem to be having trouble getting more than three out a week with killing himself. Are you super organized or is it luck or are you part of a larger syndicate that helps you out on the day to day tasks of the comic strip?

Okay, my end of the handshake is to buy up a bunch of books and buttons. I hope that does it. Heh.
