1973? Do you have one of those Y2k bug calculators?
Anyways, Congrats on 2,500 strips. I came in late, but I've been lovin' it!
I was poking around the back-end of the Sheldon site, today, and noticed that we're on Sheldon strip #2,503. That ain't too shabby!
Seems like an awful lot of strips, looking back on them. Assuming it takes me 2.5 hours each to ideate, draw, cleanup and post, that's 260 SOLID days of cartooning. Lordy Lord!
Anyway, what I really wanted to do, after looking at that number, was thank you guys for everything you've given me over the years. I doubt if I would've made it past a few hundred strips without your kind words via e-mail, forum posts, and in-person convention high-fives. (I'm including the low-fives, as well, just for statistical reasons.)
Every day, I get e-mails from one-to-two dozen Sheldonistas, all over the world. You send in kind words, links, funny stories, pictures, or how today's strip reflected your mood for the day. And I have to tell you...that's an amazing gift. The kind of gift that feeds an artist's soul. It's the reason why a cartoonist does what they do.
So thank you, my friends, for helping make 2,500 strips possible! Here's to 2,500 more!

Postscript: Quick! Someone who's good at calendar-math: If today is #2,503, what date will we hit 3,000 at a seven-strips-a-week rate? My liberal-arts brain tried to figure it out, but came up with May 5th, 1973...and I know that ain't right. :) [Edited to note: Almost instantly by e-mail, Twitter, and posts, folks let me know it's July 12, 2010!]

Post-to-the-Postscript: How many of you have read through the entire archive of 2,500?

Monday, July 12, 2010 will be strip #3000 according to:
http://www.timeanddate.com/date/timeadd.html
In the time it took me to do the math, bookofbiff replied. The 193rd day of next year, or July 12. Good to know my math skills have not faded too much after several years without a math class.
And yeah, I spent a weekend going through the archives a few weeks ago. Nothin' like a Sheldon marathon.
What about when you say "down low" and then yank your hand away before the other hand hits it and you say "too slow"? Do those count?
Anyway, congrats on the 2,500 mark! I hope I get to be just as prolific!
I haven't sat down and specifically read through the archives, but I have been reading the strip from the very first one. I read over 100 comic strips online every day, and I have to say that Sheldon is my favourite. Congrats on 25,00, and I hope your around for 25,000 more!
Last summer, when I was recovering from surgery and couldn't martial my mental forces sufficiently to knit (much less read a book), i spent many a morning reading random Sheldon strips. More than once, I laughed out loud, which I can only assume aided my recuperation--or at least made me feel better for the moment.
Thank you, Dave!
(Puts hand up) I've read the whole archive. Nothing like being a student for lots of time and internet access.
Ooh, I've read all of the archives. Twice >_>. And the books.
And! They're still funny!
I read through the archive when I first discovered Sheldon--what, about a year ago? Since then, I've just kept up with it daily. But I suppose it would be totally worth it to go back and re-read the archive-right after I finish reading all the online Peanuts strips over at comics.com (I'm only up to 1956 on it!).
Dave, I just wanted to let you know: I have read through the archives at least twice, that I can remember. When I introduced my girlfriend to the strip recently, we read through them together. Thanks for the laughs. Arthur is oft-quoted these days.
I'm fortunate; I came in relatively early in the old BLC days, so I've not had to slog through the entire archive.
Still - awesomesauce on the milestone, Dave!
Congrats on the milestone! I read through the entire archive early last year. Since then I've read Sheldon daily. It never fails to make me smile, and often makes me laugh out loud. Thanks!
I've read some of the archives. Then in December i bought the complete collection of books, thinking I wouldn't have to read the archive online any more, but my 11yo son quickly informed me that there are strips online that don't appear in the books. So much for that strategy!
Oh!!Oh!!! I have read the whole archive! Pick me! (ok, elementary school moment, sorry). Actually, I kept a running tally at my desk of what date I was on until I got through the whole archive on my lunch breaks--yes, I'm a nerd! Since I finished that, I just hit the random button, and read from there for a bit...you know, because one Sheldon comic a day is not always enough. Congrats on the milestone and may there be *many* more!
HUZZAH!!! Thy writing doth fill me with the happies!!
Thank you for all of your hard work & the smile that you put on my face everyday! I tore through the 'toons when I first discovered Sheldon in '04 & now check it everyday (even though I get the e-mails). My Sheldon books get a lot of action, too. :-0 *lol*
Thanks for the laughs of the past & the ones yet to come!!
Had meant to add:
"Shakespeare. Bam."
@ the end of the first line. Kind of lost its impact now. :-(
Oh well, congrats!!
I've been with you since the very beginning (linked from Get Fuzzy during the comics.com days), so while I've never expressly been through the archives (except to re-find the Leprechaun-hunter strip every now and then), I've read them all. Can't wait for the next 2500.
