On a more interesting note, he lost his fortune and at the end of his life was managing a bowling alley.
Usually one must go to a bowling alley to meet a man of your stature.

One of those cases where your parents should NOT make the mother's maiden name as your son's middle name. His grandfather was Henry Howland Crapo, a governor of Michigan. Incidentally Im related to em on the Howland side (via Henry's mom, Phoebe Howland). She's a descendent of Henry Howland, a Mayflower pilgrim. Im descended from his brother, John Howland (who also has former President's Bush as descendents). Winston Churchill is also descended from Henry Howland. Genealogy..gotta love it. :D
