Hahaaaa I see him. :) Nice!
You guys should pull an Al Hirshfeld on the next crowd scene and put a number down next to Dave's signature to indicate how many Enterprise crew members are hidden in the scene. :-P
Perhaps intern Cari was channeling the classic punk song by Spizzenergi, "Where's Captain Kirk?".
YouTube, as usual, has the goods right here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3B4Lw7VM0g
w-wow.... haha! XD Everyone's reactions are so funny! I completely agree, that was a stylen' rim shot. I have no feelings on either actor, but that was pure net.
Anyone got suggestions on who I aught to include the next time Dave draws a crowd scene? Perhaps a Twilight vampire? Obama? Spiderman?
Jumping off topic for a silly moment. Arthur looks so darn CUTE with his little chef's hat and happy grin! I think what really sells it is his little duck tail wagging along. Bravo for the little details!
Hey now, Shatner could act. If anything, he overacted. There's nothing wooden about the Shat in classic Trek.
I'm just not a fan of remakes, and a massive fan of old Star Trek. To be completely honest, the new ship annoyed me more than anything else, but Pine's surname is an easy target.
Hmm... this rebuttal is making me look like a massive nerd. Scotty, beam me out of here!
Yes, it IS making you look like a massive nerd... Though I can't quite relate, yet I can.
You see, my father used to watch TNG. So since I was a kid, I've been watching Star Trek. I've seen all of Voyager, but I could never quite get over how OLD the original Shatner version was.
So I liked the new movie. :) But yes, I am still a nerd. A girl nerd, even!
I do think that all those hardcore traditionalists should get over their nerd rage though - they may not like it, but it's a MOVIE. Opinions are going to differ on the thing no matter what, based on personal preference. I don't see why we all need to be convinced whether or not Shatner or Pine is better, or if the ship was cooler this way.
Though frankly I think all the Star Trek ships could've looked more like that... Don't get me wrong, I love Star Trek but a little bit more... movement/action in the whole thing would have been so cool.
I apologize for ranting on Dave's poor overly ranted on comment board.
I'm not sure I'd call myself a hardcore traditionalist, because to do that with regards to Star Trek with a straight face is to be a bit of a wally. Star Trek in 40 years has gone through more ret-conning than Michael Jackson's face. I just find it very hard to look at the new actors and the new ship and accept them as the ones permanently embossed on my memory as almost cherished friends or loved ones. There's too much emotional weight behind the old Enterprise to roll with it automatically when a self-confessed non-Trekkie comes along and basically says "that's too old, this is now better." The image of the classic ship coupled with the fanfare in the background moves me now as much as when I was a kid falling in love with Star Trek for the first time. Also, I don't like the idea that they had to do an action film to save Star Trek at the expense of the more cerebral and philosophical elements of the original. They even advertised the new film as "this generation's Star Wars" which is just ludicrous. I love Star Wars too, but for very different reasons, because they're not both the same thing at all. Also, this generation's Star Wars is still Star Wars, despite Lucas' best efforts to ruin it.
I'm actually 23. I grew up watching the re-runs on BBC2 of the classic Trek and TNG with my father, and I still preferred Shatner to the newer captains and series that were going on at the same time.
I just... I don't know. I would have rather Star Trek be left in peace than reanimated and brought fresh success at the cost of its principals and soul. I didn't totally hate the new film, I even cried when old Spock said his famous "I have been and ever shall be your friend" line. But it just isn't Star Trek for me, and it never could be.
Now that I have thoroughly embarrassed myself, after initially making my original comment that started all this as a joke no less, I'll be shuffling off. This isn't what these posts should be about, but about the comic.
