Twilight Zone

Saturday, November 28, 2009 - 12:11 AM

No "Drive" this week: It'll be returning next Saturday. In the meantime, curl up with excessive amounts of pie, an old episode of Twilight Zone, and enjoy the weekend!

I don't know what it says about the U.S. that, when given a long weekend around a holiday, television stations always seem to show a marathon of Twilight Zone. I imagine the station manager just pops in a DVD of season 3 at the broadcast center, gets in their car, and goes home for more pie. These marathons can't be a coincidence.

That's because it isn't a coincidence. What you describe is exactly what happens in most master control stations every holiday. Sure, they'll leave one unlucky lonely technician to "make sure nothing breaks" but everyone else will take off and leave the pre-programmed marathon to run. Just hope that poor guy doesn't fall asleep and leave your channels in dead air!

Regardless of why the stations do it staff-wise, I know at least in Los Angeles it is a Fine Holiday Tradition that many of us would miss.

WONderful Twilight Zone strip! High five to Sheldon from a fellow marathoner! They just don't understand us, do they; marathons are to be experienced, not merely 'viewed'.
