e-book vs e-reader (2 comments)

Being quite picky here, but I was confused at first by today's (11/30/09) strip. The title and strip refer to e-books, which are electronic versions of the printed book, but you talk about a device, which is more often referred to as an e-reader, such as the Kindle, Nook, etc. I could use that device to download and read an electronic version of Sheldon's Still Got It, if it were possible. It's not, so I bought the book. Don't know if anyone else has mention it...

Myself I'd buy a Netbook. Very comparable in size and weight and cost to some of the e-readers and all the e-books I have are downloaded from Baen Books free library or came on a CD with one of their hardcovers. That way as well as being able to read e-books while out I can also do the other things.

I'm of the ilk to take those forgotten Palms and turn them into mobibooks readers. The whole point of the hardback book size of the others is only print size and graphics. And I'd save myself a few bucks. I still see the e-readers as a big cash cow for the sponsor after the start-up costs are absorbed. They're creating a system where people are going to pay dearly for a convenience service. And they're in bed with the old-media newspapers to give them a last gasp at survival.
