It all depends on how you look at it. If you look at any photograph of bananas growing in a bunch (or in a "hand") you will see that Bananas grow "upside down" with the stem pointing toward the trunk of the vine, or tree. When you peel a Banana from the nub in a string cheese avoidance action, you are actually peeling it from the top down.
Apparently, apes, gorillas and monkeys peel bananas from the bottom-up, not from the stem-down...as it takes care of the the string cheese problem aaaand the weird GI-tract nub in one fell swoop.
