Cintiq Update

Wednesday, June 23, 2010 - 03:02 PM

For those wondering, the last three installments of "Drive" have been drawn digitally, without pen 'n paper, on the Cintiq.

For those who didn't spot it -- great, that's the goal! For those who did spot it -- also great! That means you're keen-eyed enough on my style to spot minor(ish) differences...which I take as a compliment. So! Win-win, really!

Dave,

I'm certain I'm not the only one who reads you every day in hopes of gleaning some comic inspiration, in hopes of some on-line osmosis of talent. So, how's abouts yews tells us about the Cintiq experience a little. I totally missed your transition (and I'm pretty tight to your linework) so I'm curious about your process, your frustrations, and your opinion on whether or not it was worth the investment.

Keep up the quackery, you're my own personal Bill Waterson, only without the reclusive angry bit.

I would really like this also. I remembered you saying you were going to a tablet, but I didn't remember which one. My current goal is to save for the Cintiq 21 for two years, and practice drawing until I get there. If I don't want it any more, fine, no harm no foul.

Listening to a first hand account of what the device is like would be very useful to me.

I did notice last week that some of your lines (the mustard bottles, for example) were a lot thinner than usual. I figured you'd either done it on the Cintiq or had resized some scanned pen-lines in Photoshop. But it wasn't different enough for me to be sure. And of course I didn't notice anything at all the week before (apparently the first Cintiq-week), so . . . pretty subtle.

I'm currious as well. I Didn't catch the transition (though I don't have educated eyes for such things) Do you enjoy drawing digitaly or do you feel it looses some of its romance
