I had to look up this reference on a Wikipedia (I'm non English speaking). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Giving_Tree . Very funny!
I'm wondering, can someone expand that article with this comic?

I wonder if Dave was reading the "Book-a-minute" page when he got the idea for this strip:

Wow - that was really fast - someone put up the Sheldon reference super quick on the wikipedia page. This was one of the funniest comics I've come across in the past year.

I have to say, I had Arthur's reaction the last time I read that book.

This is so funny. We were talking about The Giving Tree at Thanksgiving! One of my little cousins used to make her mom read it just to watch mom cry. The rest of us argued about who we were supposed to emulate... the jerk kid or pushover of a tree. I forwarded the strip to my entire family immediately.

I just happened to read this to my five year old the other night. At the end she sat for a moment and quietly said "That's a sad story." What could I do but reply, "Yes, honey, it is." What's the moral here? Look what co-dependence gets you?

Oh man, msj...that a little bit breaks my heart.
...but still! It's so true!
