Double-Tall Strips

Wednesday, January 26, 2011 - 11:58 PM

I realized, recently, that I've been creating a lot of double-tall strips rather than my normal, horizontal, 3- to 4-panel strips.

It's interesting to notice, now that I have: Go back over the last two weeks, for example, and notice how many times I've done it.

What is my subconscious trying to tell me, I wonder, that I'm creating bigger comics?

On a positive consumer note - when we buy them we get twice the value for money :)

It's trying to tell you that we need Sunday strips again ;) I'll be waiting for the color to start creeping back into the comics in the meantime.

Luxuriating in the absolute creative freedom which being a web comic artist affords you. :) Any plot, any amount of setup, any image -- anything which occurs to you. If you can draw it, you can post it. Isn't that one of the reasons you left the syndicate in the first place? to have the freedom to explore the double-talls, the single-panels, the long arcs, the obscure geek puns?

Last November, I switched my comic to double-tall and I am never going back. The down side is that once big comics become the norm, not the exception, you have to adjust your idea of how long it usually takes to finish one.

not to disagree with the other comments, I think its just your subconscious telling you that you love drawing them as much as we love reading them (or more). :D

I'll have a double-tall Sheldon and Gramps, with a side of Arthur and a shot of Flaco.
