The best thing about root beer?
...That it's made from sassafras root. Because there is no sentence in the English language that isn't improved by having the word "sassafras" in it. <--IMPROVED

Must be an English thing but I think it tastes disgusting - it tastes exactly like how Deep Heat muscular rub smells.

One of the first things I learned when I went to Australia was that you can't get root beer there. It appears that "Root" is Australian slang for "F***." Which means all of those Dennis the Menace comics get censored (he also doesn't eat pb&js there, because jelly is considered to be like jello-just not a proper sandwich ingredient.)

I think Wintergreen is the primary flavor these days in the "great root drink". But I'm no expect. I'm just repeating what I read.

64bprophet - This is from another site I found:
"The key ingredient to root beer is sassafras root, which is what produces the tangy, thick brewed flavor that root beer is noted for. In 1960, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration banned the use of sassafras oil, labeling it a carcinogen. Root beer makers began experimenting with new and improved recipes, minus the sassafras oil, hoping to find a suitable tasting alternative. Not long after the ban, the root beer industry was saved when inventors discovered that sassafras could be used afterall, if treated first, to remove the oil."

"Dogs N' Suds" is the best commercial root beer I have tasted. It is thick, creamy, and tastes almost like it was made in small batches by hand. Even better than Dad's or Hires.

For instance i could poor almost a whole can of root beer in a glass, cold, and not have it fizz over
But a can of warm root beer fizzes over easily
Why is this?.
