Literature: Unsuccessfully Competing Against TV Since 1953

Outta the blue last night, I got the nicest e-mail from my old college English professor, with praise for the "Literature" book. Apparently, she tracked me down just to let me know the book cracked her up. And lemme tell you: What an awesome endorsement that is. If the book can crack up a double-doctorate on Emily Dickinson and Herman Melville then THIS IS A BOOK THAT HAS DONE ITS JOB, MY FRIENDS.

Not familiar with the book? It's the collection that brings together all the literary comics from "Sheldon" into one volume: Literature: Unsuccessfully Competing Against TV Since 1953. It takes on all the greats of Western Lit: From Seuss to Shakespeare, Twain to Tolkien. And if you're a lover of books, and haven't tried this one out...now you have the personal endorsement of my third-year English Lit professor to give it a try. :)

Edited to add: Hey, neat! ...the book just got nominated for an Eisner Award, too. GUESS WHO'S TREATIN' HIMSELF TO SOME TWO-SCOOP ICE CREAM?

I LOVE this book! My friends got it for me this past ComiCon for hosting them at my home...as an English major, I say "yey!"

Now, Dave, here's my idea for another compilation: how's about a "coffee table book" with all the coffee-related strips together?

That would ROCK as a gift for all of my sludge-slugging addict friends! :-D (I'm caffeine-free!)

So, Dave- shall I assume you're fully aware that you posted the review copy of 'Literature' where *anybody* can get to it? Like, even me, who cannot legitimately vote for the Eisner? I have it now, and will read it, probably with my kid who just found and devoured my copy of "Pure Ducky Goodness" - if that's cool with you? If not, say the word, and I'll shift+delete it. Really, I will, if you want.
Otherwise, sweet! Thanks, Dave! I just want to confirm we're cool on the free copy.

Dave, that is very cool receiving the niceness from your English prof. And tracked you down, no less- this is high praise, indeed. Just out of curiosity- which prof did you hear from (or which class, to protect her good name)? There's a decent chance you and I were in that class together.
