Interesting point about this little speech. Apparently, all the words are good "Anglo-Saxon" words except for the last word "surrender", which is of French origin (honestly!).
Thus, Churchill, was a knowledgeable linguist who knew how to employ that psychological edge and encourage a certain British tribalism against the Axis powers.
