Hobbit Holes revisited - Sheldon® Comic Strip

PANEL 1: ARTHUR, a yellow duck, sits under a tree reading “The Hobbit”. SHELDON, a ten-year-old boy with giant glasses, lays on the grass beside him, resting his eyes, hands behind his head.
ARTHUR: How did Hobbits build their houses?
SHELDON: I suppose they dug a hole…then built inside the hole?

PANEL 2: Close up on ARTHUR, holding the book with his feet.
ARTHUR: Yeah, but you saw how GREEN the shire is. That place gets a ton of rain. Into loose soil! How you gonna keep that water out?

PANEL 3: ARTHUR stands up, peering over the book.
ARTHUR: Those houses are wood and stone and plaster! Even if you used a ton of tar and French drains, that’s gonna leak like a sieve!

PANEL 4: ARTHUR, standing over the book, looks over at SHELDON who responds, his eyes still closed.
ARTHUR: Tolkien did NOT talk enough about water mitigation in the Shire.
SHELDON: The big threat in the Hobbit isn’t the black riders. It’s BLACK MOLD.
