Roz Chast

I had to call “do-overs” on Thursday’s strip.

I drew it up, and immediately realized that Roz Chast would’ve handled that strip better. This one just seemed up her alley….seemed perfect for her sense of humor.

Roz’s work is most commonly seen in the New Yorker, but I imagine a great many Sheldon readers outside the US/Canada might not be familiar with her work.

So go check out her site! And if you’re enjoying it, do drop her a line to tell her, and pick up one of her books!

New Schedule Starting March 31st

The bonus strips from the last month were really fun to do. Hope you guys enjoyed ’em!

Having DRIVE on Wednesdays reinforced that I want to move the strip away from Saturday updates. It’s a nice weekend treat…but literally *no one* is at their computer on a Saturday. In contrast, I’ve always liked Thursday as a webcomics reading day, so… BAM: Decision Made. Starting on March 31st, it’ll be Thursday updates for DRIVE.

(I’ll blog about it repeatedly before and after I make the move…just to remind everyone.)

And thanks again to the game masters at Star Pirates for sponsorin’ the site for a month, and making the bonus strips possible: You guys are awesome.

Volunteers Needed! …Gifts Involved!

REVISED TO NOTE: There are new instructions for strip transcriptions, HERE. The short version is: The user login systems and the transcription systems are not playing nicely with each other…so we had to devise a new way to do it.

Call for Questions!

I thought it might be fun to record a little podcast, answering any questions you might have about the DRIVE universe, it’s characters, the empire, the Continuum, etc.

Obviously, I won’t answer any questions that would give away plot points or ruin the story…but there’s probably a lot of periphery stuff that I could answer. Just for fun.

So if you have a question, or would like to hear me talk more at length about an aspect of the world in DRIVE…ask away in the comments below!

(I’ll record the audio or video podcast in a week or two, when we’ve built up enough questions.)

Help me make the site better!

We’re in the process of redesigning the Sheldon site, and I need your help with a new feature. We’re adding the ability to jump to your favorite Sheldon story lines. But with 3,200 strips in the archives, I need you to tell me which story lines to include! Tell me your favorites!

If you know or bookmarked your favorite storylines, do this:

In the comments section below, post a brief 5-10 word description of the storyline, and the URL of the first strip in that storyline.

For example, you could write:

“Flaco goes to space”: https://sheldoncomics.com/archive/061230.html
or
“Flaco goes to space”: Here

(Please post it, rather than e-mail it to me. That way, everyone can see the storylines others have already mentioned, which will cut down on duplicate work. )

Thank you guys for the help!

Today’s Bonus DRIVE: Fernando Returns

I love that there’s a genuine part of Nosh that thinks it might have been the the potato salad.

Hey! It’s another bonus Wednesday DRIVE strip! Brought to you by the game masters at Star Pirates.

It’s been very cool having them as site sponsors this month… a lot of you have jumped in on the game? and loved it. Which is rad!

And if you haven’t tried it: It’s a free, browser-based sci-fi game where you can join La Familia to mine, fight, pillage, and go to war. And it’s free!

Original Sheldon Art for sale!

Heads up for Sheldon art lovers! I’m putting a nifty piece of Sheldon Original Art up for grabs : “How to Spot a Fake Cowboy” from page 38 in “Living Dangerously with Saturated Fats”. It’s drawn in lightfast, archival inks on acid-free, vellum Bristol stock. The cardstock measures 14 x 11 inches, while the drawn image is roughly 12 x 8 inches. There are no mistakes or corrections in the artwork itself, so it will frame up really cool. Plus, it was drawn with, like, an INORDINATE amount of love.

And if you’d like, I’m happy to personalize the piece to whoever ends up snagging it. Something nice like: “To the coolest person I’ve ever met, with thanks for saving my life from sharks that one time: I totally owe you forever. All my love, Dave.” Something like that. Or maybe something totally different! Maybe you’d prefer it to say “a T-Rex” instead of “sharks”. TOTALLY YOUR CALL.

Anyway! I’m starting the bidding at one penny, as I’d rather leave it up to you to decide what it’s worth. And shipping is free within the US! So if you’re interested, head over and throw your hat into the ring!
