Stripped on Amazon!

For those of you that love Amazon and that sweet, sweet free Prime shipping, great news: My film STRIPPED is now on Amazon!

The DVD features the full-length documentary (Voted “Best Documentary” at Comic-Con…just sayin’), the full Directors’ Commentary, and a bonus, 83-minute interview with Jim Davis of Garfield. Look, I’m not great on math, but I’m pretty sure that adds up to over a BILLION HOURS of content. Pretty sweet deal!

OR! You can also get it…

1.) Direct from us! With over 25 hours of full interviews!
2.) iTunes and iTunes Canada!
3.) Google Play!
4.) The super cool folks at Topatoco!

How the sausage is made…

I thought it’d be fun to show you the elements that make up a Sheldon strip. In Photoshop parlance, these are called “layers”. Here, they’re arrayed on the same page so that you can compare them. In actuality, these are overlaid on one another like transparent animation cells.

Segovia & Charo

Couple thoughts on today’s strip:

– It’s super random, I know. But the idea of Charo training with Segovia has always made me laugh.

– I saw Charo play in concert once. She is an AMAZING guitarist. She played “Leyenda”, and I think I was shaking at the end, it was so powerful.

– I know that only 3 of you will recognize the people in this strip, but whaddya gonna do.

Alcubierre Drive

The keen-eyed among us may have thought that the “drive” in DRIVE appears similar to an Alcubierre Drive. I say similar because the physics of how the drive in DRIVE works is different in a few key ways. I’d say more, but it might reveal some…story stuff…too soon.

In any case! NASA Advanced Propulsion Lead, Dr. Harold White, proposed an updated version of an Alcubierre Drive at the SpaceVision 2013 conference. It’s a great watch, in and of itself, but I thought you guys might be interested to see the theoretical ship designs proposed around the 40-minute and 42-minute mark. Hmmm. HMMMMMM.

Life Debts

We’ve only gotten hints of the relationship between the Captain and Nosh throughout the strip — but the fact that Nosh feels he owes her multiple “life debts” goes back to the first five or ten strips in the story.

Here, for example.

…I’d be curious to see what else folks have ferreted out about that relationship, using only hints from various chronologies or random phrases that have sprinkled their way across the story.

Dune

As a series of books, DUNE is almost unrivaled, in my mind. I’ve re-read the series multiple times over my life…and the scope of the story directly inspired my scifi strip, DRIVE.

But it’s also a great source for taffy jokes.

Fekk Dragon Original Art

Heads up for DRIVE fans! I’m putting a nifty piece of DRIVE Original Art up for grabs: The first sketch I ever made of the Fekk Dragon! It’s drawn in lightfast, archival inks on acid-free, vellum Bristol stock.

The art measure 6 3/4 in. x 5 1/2 in. There are no mistakes or corrections in the artwork itself, so it will frame up really cool. As you all know, DRIVE’s been drawn digitally for a few years now, so this is one of those rare pieces of DRIVE Original Art! There’s not many, is alls I’m sayin’!

I’m starting the bidding at one penny, as I’d rather leave it up to you to decide what it’s worth. And shipping is free within the US! So if you’re interested, head over and throw your hat in the ring!

Incredible Reader-Made Short

Did you guys ever see this awesome short made by DRIVE reader Dan Taubert? (Here’s the link, in case it’s not showing up in this blog engine.) Seeing La Invencible’s ring in action at the end is worth the price of admission, in my book. The whole thing is really, really cool! (…Just ignore the tiny error of human markings on Continuum ships, and appreciate all Dan’s hard work in making this!)

By the way: To anyone who loves making them…I LOVE reader-made 3-D turnarounds of the ships in Drive. You can see a few examples here, on a page I very much need to update with recent ships.

Nothing makes me happier than to see people bring those ships to life! I always send personalized Drive sketches to whoever makes ’em pop. Just saaaaayin’. 🙂

Update Schedule

As you can tell from today’s entry, I’m moving DRIVE’s update day to Monday. There are so many more people, bummed to be back at work or school on a Monday — it feels like the best day for an update.
