A huge thank you to the NCS board and membership for the kind invite out to talk, to Universal Press Syndicate for the hospitality — and for the warm welcome to all us youngin’s over the course of the weekend. It was nothing but lovely.

How big is “The Spark of Thought”?

Just for fun, I thought I’d put the largest Continuum ship up against the largest human ship, “La Invencible,” to give you a sense of scale…

EDITED TO ADD:

More than a few of you e-mailed me asking for a wallpaper of The Spark of Thought, so here you go! (Click for the full-size, 1920x1080px image…and resize as needed!)

Read my Eisner-nominated book…free!

As you know, Sheldon is nominated for an Eisner Award…and voting is now open! You’re eligible to vote if you’re a webcomics or print comics creator, graphic-novel librarian, editor or comics educator.

Sheldon’s “Literature” book was nominated in the Best Humor category (category 8). So grab a free PDF copy of the nominated book (12 Mb, PDF format), then go here to vote!

The Widdlest Balrog

Somethin’ about Balrogs always fascinated me as a kid. They appear in, what, four pages of the Lord of the Rings? But I’ve always been captivated by Tolkien’s description of them. And every year or so, I allow myself a strip on them. Here are some previous entries:

Here, here, or here.

TCAF Followup

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Toronto Comics Arts Festival this past weekend — it was an immensely fun and energetic show. Toronto’s a great town, and everyone was super kind. I had the best chats at this show. And the reader gifts of (copious) Tim Horton’s and Myke H’s gift of local Toronto ice wine were very thoughtful — a huge thank you to the Sheldonistas that brought those out as a welcome!

I should also acknowledge all the hard work of festival director Christopher Butcher and his staff — they’ve put together something really special in TCAF: Something Toronto can be proud of. It really is a wonderful show! I shall be back in the years ahead!

(Oh! And if you took any Sheldon or Drive-related shots at the show, e-mail ’em my way, and I’ll add them to this blog post.)

Toronto! I’m a-comin’ this weekend!

IT’S TRUE! After a week of healing, I’m happy to say that my back is 80% “back” in shape. <—professional comedian

…and as a result, I’ll be in Toronto this weekend!

That’s right, I’ll be at the Toronto Comics Arts Festival (TCAF), on Saturday and Sunday: Signing, sketching, and hugging my way through Toronto’s populace! If you live in/near/around Toronto: Come out! The show is free, it’s got a huge roster of amazing cartoonists…and IT’S MY FIRST TIME IN TORONTO! I’ll have all the books, all the t-shirts, the prints, and more. And I’ll of course be giving out free sketches and lasting friendship to one and all!

Come out and say hi!

This Weekend! I’m in Toronto! (Probably)

I’m making my first-ever trip to Toronto for the Toronto Comics Arts Festival (TCAF), this weekend! It’s a free show, and everyone tells me it’s the greatest show ever…so you have no excuse! Come on out!

I’ll have all the books, all the t-shirts, and original Sheldon art (e-mail me if you have a specific one you want brought). And I’ll of course be giving out free sketches and lasting friendship to one and all!

…one caveat: This past weekend, I threw out my back…. So there’s a tiny chance I won’t be boarding that plane. I’ll know for sure by Friday: Fingers crossed!

Eisner Voting

It’s Eisner voting time! Sheldon has been nominated for an Eisner Award…and voting is now open! You’re eligible to vote if you’re a webcomics/print creator, graphic-novel librarian, editor or comics educator.

Sheldon’s “Literature” book was nominated in the Best Humor category (category 8), and I’d appreciate your support! Register to vote, or login here to vote!

Also! I’m giving out free PDF copies of the nominated book, for you to review ‘n enjoy before you vote. I don’t have the marketing reach of the big publishers I’m up against…so all I can do is let the work speak for itself. Download your review copy (11.5 MB, PDF format) here!
